Tips For a Successful Floor Scan

CAPTURE is a proud partner of CubiCasa (https://www.cubi.casa/). CubiCasa provides technology that creates floorplans, using your mobile phone. Below are some tips to ensure a successful scan of a home.

Scanning a home begins when you press record on the scanning screen of the app. You must follow the exterior of the home. You will do a loop throughout the home, finishing in the same place you start.

Find your scanning path

It is important that you plan your path when scanning a home. You need to follow the baseboards of the home, as if you were painting the trim. In the example below we are scanning a two level home.

We begin in the Lower Level of the home at the bottom of the steps. Follow the red line to see how the property data collector moves throughout the space. In tight spaces like the bathroom, the property data collector just enters the room slightly and pans the space with their phone in hand. As the property data collector finishes the Lower Level, they begin to move up the stairs (transition to green)

We now begin to scan the Entry Level, starting midway up the stairs. Follow the green line to see how the property data collector moves throughout the space. In tight spaces like the bathroom & walk in closet, the property data collector just enters the room slightly and pans the space with their phone in hand. As the property data collector finishes the Entry Level, they begin back down the stairs. They stop in the same place they began scanning in the Lower Level and they click the button to stop recording.

Plan your scan

  • Make sure your device is fully charged

  • Plan your path through the home to endure a smooth walk through

  • Safe mode/airplane mode an prevent interruptions during scanning

  • Disconnect any external devices that may cover the phone lens

  • Turn on lights throughout the house before you scan

  • Open all interior doors before you scan

When scanning a home...

  • Start at the lowest level of the home

  • Keep device chin to chest height

  • Stay 3'-8' away form objects when possible

  • Always walk forward, not sideways

  • Avoid going into small spaces with your body

    • Try just ducking into small spaces with your arm out and scan with an arm movement

  • Scan fixed furniture & windows by stopping & panning up and down slowly with your phone

  • DON'T scan ceilings

  • DON'T open doors while scanning

  • Slow down, no rapid movements

    • Remember that your feet & hands move. Watch them both

  • You must finish in the same place you began your scan
